GOLDEN SUNS REMAINS THIRD IN LATEST USTFCCCA

SOUTH REGIONAL RANKINGS
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Women’s Cross Country remained third in
this week’s sixth NCAA Division II South Regional
rankings that are compiled by the United States Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Tech was ranked fourth in the Preseason Division II
South Regional rankings, before moving up one spot to
No. 3 in the initial weekly poll four weeks ago and has
remained third since that point.
The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region poll is released
every week during the regular season. The poll ranks the
Top 10 men’s and women’s cross country teams in each of
the eight NCAA regions. Eight regional representatives
coordinate the voting in their own region with input
from the coaches.
Tech remained third this week after finishing in 26th
place at last weekend’s 21st-Annual Chile Pepper X-C
Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. Tech scored 648 points to
finish seven points behind 25th place Arkansas State. In
addition, the Golden Suns finished second among the
non-NCAA Division I schools at the meet.
Tampa, the two-time defending South Region champion,
remains atop this week’s poll and the Spartans are
followed by Harding at No. 2. Following Tech in the poll
this week is West Florida at No. 4 and Florida Southern
rounds out the Top 5 at No. 5.
The next five in the poll begins with Florida Tech at
No. 6 and they are followed by West Georgia at No. 7,
while West Alabama remains ranked eighth. This week’s
poll is rounded out by Alabama-Huntsville at No. 9 and
Valdosta State at No. 10 respectively.
Tech will return to action this weekend when they travel
to Hoover, Ala., to compete in the 2009 Gulf South
Conference Championships held at Veteran’s Park.
