GOLDEN SUNS REMAINS THIRD IN LATEST USTFCCCA
NCAA
DIVISION II SOUTH REGIONAL RANKINGS
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Women’s Cross Country remained third in
this week’s second NCAA Division II South Regional
rankings that are compiled by the United States Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Tech was ranked fourth in the Preseason Division II
South Regional rankings, before moving up one spot to
No. 3 in last week’s initial weekly poll.
The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region poll will be
released every week during the regular season beginning
on Sept. 15. The poll ranks the Top 10 men’s and women’s
cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions.
Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in
their own region with input from the coaches.
Tech remained third this week after finishing in 13th
place out of 41 teams at last Saturday’s Missouri
Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. Tech scored 446 points
to finish nine points in front of 14th place Drury (455
points). Prior to the MSSU Stampede, Tech finished 11th
at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 5 and
then came in fourth place at its own 3rd-Annual Tech
Twilight Run on Sept. 11.
Tampa, the two-time defending South Region champion,
remains atop this week’s poll and the Spartans are
followed by Harding at No. 2. Following Tech in the
polls is Florida Southern at No. 4 and West Georgia
rounds out the Top 5 at No. 5.
The next five in the poll begins with Florida Tech at
No. 6, while Alabama-Huntsville jumps one spot to No. 7
and West Alabama falls a spot to No. 8. Valdosta State
and Nova Southeastern round out the second weekly poll
at Nos. 9 and 10 respectively.
Tech will now take nearly two weeks off before returning
to action on Oct. 10 when they travel to Searcy, Ark.,
to compete in the Harding Bison Stampede.
