GOLDEN SUNS RANKED THIRD IN LATEST USTFCCCA NCAA
DIVISION II SOUTH REGIONAL RANKINGS

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Women’s Cross Country moved up one spot to No. 3 in this week’s initial NCAA Division II South Regional rankings that are compiled by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Tech was ranked fourth in the Preseason Division II South Regional rankings that were released prior to the beginning of the season.

The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region poll will be released every week during the regular season beginning on Sept. 15. The poll ranks the Top 10 men’s and women’s cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions. Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in their own region with input from the coaches.

Tech moved up in this week’s first regular season after opening the season with an 11th place finish at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 5 and a fourth-place showing at last Friday’s 3rd-Annual Tech Twilight Run, which was held at Tucker Coliseum.

Tampa, the two-time defending South Region champion, is ranked first this week and the Spartans are followed by Harding at No. 2. Following Tech in the poll is Florida Southern at No. 4 and West Georgia rounds out the Top 5 at No. 5.

The next five in the poll begins with Florida Tech at No. 6, West Alabama is ranked seventh and Alabama-Huntsville, who was No. 3 in the preseason poll, falls to No. 8. Valdosta State and Nova Southeastern round out the first poll at Nos. 9 and 10 respectively.

Tech returns to action this coming Saturday, Sept. 19 when the Golden Suns travel to Joplin, Mo., to compete in the Missouri Southern Stampede.
