GOLDEN SUNS RANKED THIRD IN LATEST USTFCCCA NCAA
DIVISION II SOUTH REGIONAL RANKINGS
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Women’s Cross Country moved up one spot to
No. 3 in this week’s initial NCAA Division II South
Regional rankings that are compiled by the United States
Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Tech was ranked fourth in the Preseason Division II
South Regional rankings that were released prior to the
beginning of the season.
The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region poll will be
released every week during the regular season beginning
on Sept. 15. The poll ranks the Top 10 men’s and women’s
cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions.
Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in
their own region with input from the coaches.
Tech moved up in this week’s first regular season after
opening the season with an 11th place finish at the
Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 5 and a
fourth-place showing at last Friday’s 3rd-Annual Tech
Twilight Run, which was held at Tucker Coliseum.
Tampa, the two-time defending South Region champion, is
ranked first this week and the Spartans are followed by
Harding at No. 2. Following Tech in the poll is Florida
Southern at No. 4 and West Georgia rounds out the Top 5
at No. 5.
The next five in the poll begins with Florida Tech at
No. 6, West Alabama is ranked seventh and
Alabama-Huntsville, who was No. 3 in the preseason poll,
falls to No. 8. Valdosta State and Nova Southeastern
round out the first poll at Nos. 9 and 10 respectively.
Tech returns to action this coming Saturday, Sept. 19
when the Golden Suns travel to Joplin, Mo., to compete
in the Missouri Southern Stampede.
