GOLDEN SUNS RUN SECOND AT HARDING'S LADY BISON STAMPEDE; BAILEE MILLER TAKES HOME FIRST PLACE HONORS AGAIN

SEARCY, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Women’s Cross Country returned to action here Saturday following a nearly three week layoff by finishing second out of six teams at the 2009 Harding Lady Bison Stampede held near the intramural fields on the Harding campus.

While Tech finished second as a team, freshman Bailee Miller (Dover, Ark.) continued her hot running as she ran the 5,000-meter rain-soaked course in a time of 19:26 to take home first place honors. It was Miller’s third first place finish out of four races this season in her first season as a collegiate runner.

Tech, who is ranked third in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA D-II South Region Poll, scored 51 points to finish 15 points in front of third-place Memphis (66 points). Harding, the meet’s host and the No. 2 ranked team in the latest USTFCCCA South Region poll, won the meet as the Lady Bison had all five of their runners finish in the Top 7 for a team score of 23.

The meet was Tech’s first since competing at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Sept. 21 in Joplin, Mo. At that meet, Tech scored 446 points to finish 13th out of 41 teams.

In addition to Miller, senior Melissa Pollreis (Gravette, Ark.) ran the 5,000-course in a time of 19:47 to finish in fourth place overall, while junior Michelle Pollreis (Gravette, Ark.), Melissa’s twin sister, ran the course in a time of 21:20 to finish in 14th place overall. Junior Lauren Karnitz (DeSoto, Kan.) ran a time of 21:41 to finish in 17th place, while junior Stormi Richardson (Lumberton, Texas) ran the course in time of 22:24 to finish in 22nd place and sophomore Jenna Siebenmorgen (Fort Smith, Ark.) ran the course in a time of 23:38 to finish in 26th place overall.

Tech will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete at the 21st-Annual Chile Pepper Cross Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas.
