GOLDEN SUNS REMAIN THIRD IN LATEST D-II SOUTH REGION POLL

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Committee has released its fifth Division II women’s basketball regional rankings for the 2007-08 season. The rankings list the Top 10 teams in the each of the NCAA’s D-II regions.

Tech, who is 22-3 overall, 11-1 in the GSC West Division and 18-3 in the South Region, remains third in this week’s poll after being fourth for two consecutive weeks. Tech, who is ranked 10th in this week’s USA Today/ESPN WBCA D-II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, is one of five Gulf South Conference schools in the fifth regional poll of the season.

At the end of the season, the top eight teams from each region will receive bids to the 64-team NCAA D-II Tournament. To be considered for selection into the national tournament, each team must play at least 16 games against teams within its region or against Division II schools in contiguous states. The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through March 5. The top team in each region will have an opportunity to host the first two rounds of the 64-team National Championship Tournament. Only games played against NCAA D-II institutions are considered by the committee.

For the fifth successive week, Delta State (24-0 overall, 18-0 Region), one of the three remaining undefeated teams in Division II, remains atop the South Region poll and is followed by West Georgia (23-3 overall and 23-3 Region) at No. 2. Tech is third, while Harding (17-8 overall, 13-8 Region) moves up one spot to No. 7 and Valdosta State (22-4 overall, 19-4 Region) falls two spots to No. 8 this week.
