GOLDEN SUNS BASKETBALL REMAINS 13TH IN THIS WEEK'S
USA TODAY/ESPN WBCA D-II TOP 25 COACHES' POLL

        RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas Despite its loss in the championship game of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Sunday to Delta State, Arkansas Tech Women’s Basketball remained 13th in this week’s 15th USA Today/ESPN WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll that was released on Tuesday.

Tech earned 311 points in this week’s poll to remain No. 13 for the second consecutive week. The Golden Suns are one of four GSC schools ranked in this week’s Top 20.

The USA Today/ESPN WBCA Coaches’ Poll is voted on weekly by a panel of 29 head coaches at NCAA Division II institutions and all the coaches are members of the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association).

In addition to Tech, Delta State (29-0) remains atop the poll for the eighth consecutive week as the Lady Statesmen are one of three undefeated teams remaining in Division II, while West Georgia (24-4) fell five spots to No. 16 and Valdosta State (24-5) fell three spots to No. 17.

Delta State, who won the GSC Tournament Championship for the third consecutive season, remains No. 1 this week as they Lady Statesmen received 647 points and 25 first place votes. Following DSU in the poll is Seattle Pacific (27-0) at No. 2 and South Dakota (28-1), who received the other first place vote, remains third this week. Holy Family (30-0) remains fourth this week and Concordia-St. Paul (28-2) jumps one spot to No. 5 this week.

North Dakota (27-3) falls one spot to No. 6 and is followed by Drury (27-3) at No. 7 and Stonehill (26-4) at No. 8. Alaska-Anchorage (26-4) falls three spots to No. 9 and West Texas A&M (26-4) jumps five spots to No. 10 to round out the Top 10.

Fort Lewis (26-3) headlines the next 10 at No. 11 and is followed by Indiana [PA] (27-4) at No. 12, Tech at No. 13 and Cal State-Chico (27-5) at No. 14. Anderson (27-3) falls three spots to No. 15 and is followed by West Georgia at No. 16, Valdosta State at No. 17 and Franklin Pierce (24-5) falls one spot to No. 18. Tusculum (26-4) remains at No. 19 and Saint Mary’s [TX] (25-4) rounds out the Top 20 at No. 20.

The final five begins with Michigan Tech (23-7) at No. 21 and is followed by Hillsdale (23-4) at No. 22 and California [PA] (24-5) falls one spot to No. 23. Washburn (23-6) and Emporia State (21-7) complete this week’s poll at Nos. 24 and 25 respectively.

Tech will return to action on Friday, March 14, when they open up play as the No. 2 seed in the 2008 NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament against seventh-seeded Tuskegee at 1 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum in Cleveland, Miss.
