FORMER WONDER BOY IKE OHANSON CONTINUES TO
MAKE WAVES IN PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas Former Arkansas Tech Wonder Boy forward/center Ike Ohanson continues to make headlines in the International Basketball League.

Ohanson, who was a two-year lettermen for the Wonder Boys from 2004-06, was recently traded from the Seattle Explorers to the Snohomish County Explosion, which is based in Monroe, Wash.

In his first game with the Explosion, Ohanson scored 14 points and pulled down a single-game franchise record 18 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards, in the team’s 113-102 win last Saturday over the Vancouver Titans. The win over the Titans improved the Explosion’s record to 6-6 on the season.

This is Ohanson’s third season in the IBL as he played the previous two seasons with the Tacoma Jazz, before joining the Seattle team at the start of this season. In his second season with the Jazz in 2008, Ohanson, who was a Second-Team All-GSC West Division performer with the Wonder Boys in 2005-06, was named to the IBL All-Star Team. In last season’s All-Star Game, Ohanson scored 31 points, had 19 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Prior to the trade to Snohomish County, Ohanson, who is a native of the Ivory Coast, was 15th in the league in rebounding with a 14.3 average for the Explorers. Over his first two seasons in the IBL, Ohanson is averaging 15.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game and is a 52 percent shooter from the field and a 75 percent shooter from the free throw line.

In his two seasons with the Wonder Boys, Ohanson averaged 8.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game and shot 55 percent from the field and blocked 28 shots in 51 games. As a senior in 2005-06, he averaged 12.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game and was second in the league with 11 double-doubles. He also finished his senior campaign scoring in double figures in 14 of his final 16 games and recording four double-doubles in those 14 games.

Ohanson, who transferred to Tech after playing two seasons at Cedar Valley [TX] College, finished his two-year Tech career with 446 points, 242 rebounds and a 55 percent field goal percentage. In addition, he had 20 career double-digit scoring efforts, 12 double figure rebounding games and 11 career double-doubles. He also came one rebound shy of the school’s single-game record when he pulled down 18 boards against Incarnate Word in 2005.
