WONDER BOYS ANNOUNCE ITS SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMP DATES
RUSSELLVILLE,
Arkansas
–
Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys Basketball Coach Mark
Downey has announced that he and his coaching staff
will be conducting three basketball camps this coming
summer on the Tech campus.
Among the camps this summer offered by the 2009 Gulf
South Conference champion Wonder Boys are two individual
skills camps and a high school team camp.
Tech’s first camp of the summer is the first of two
sessions of an individual skills day camp. The first
individual skills camp is scheduled for June 8-11 and is
open to anyone in grades 1-12 and costs $125, while the
second individual skills camp is scheduled for July
27-30 and also costs $125. Campers that choose to attend
both individual camp sessions for a cost of $200. Both
of the individual skills camps will run from 9 a.m.-4
p.m. each day.
Downey said that the individual skills day camp will
emphasize the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling,
passing, dribbling and team play. In addition, it will
focus on sportsmanship, attitude and work ethic. The
camp will feature contests, skill stations, guest
speakers and every camper will have their jump shot
videotaped.
Tech’s next camp is a two-day team camp for high school
boys’ basketball teams. The camp is scheduled for June
19-20 and costs $50 per player for commuters and $75 for
commuter campers with meals included. For overnight
campers, the cost is $65 and $90 for overnight campers
with meals included. Teams participating in the team
camp will be classified according to their level of play
and classification. Each team will compete in a
round-robin pool to determine seeding for tournament
play. All of the camp games will have certified
officials who are taking part in a summer referee
clinic.
“Our team camp will allow every school in the state of
Arkansas to play against the best competition the state
has to offer,” said Downey, who is entering his fourth
season with the Wonder Boys in 2009-10. “It will be an
excellent measuring stick for your upcoming season and
will allow our staff to evaluate some of the evaluate
some of the great high school players that the state has
to offer.”
