WONDER BOYS ANNOUNCE ITS SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMP DATES

        RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys Basketball Coach Mark Downey has announced that he and his coaching staff will be conducting three basketball camps this coming summer on the Tech campus.

Among the camps this summer offered by the 2009 Gulf South Conference champion Wonder Boys are two individual skills camps and a high school team camp.

Tech’s first camp of the summer is the first of two sessions of an individual skills day camp. The first individual skills camp is scheduled for June 8-11 and is open to anyone in grades 1-12 and costs $125, while the second individual skills camp is scheduled for July 27-30 and also costs $125. Campers that choose to attend both individual camp sessions for a cost of $200. Both of the individual skills camps will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.

Downey said that the individual skills day camp will emphasize the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, passing, dribbling and team play. In addition, it will focus on sportsmanship, attitude and work ethic. The camp will feature contests, skill stations, guest speakers and every camper will have their jump shot videotaped.

Tech’s next camp is a two-day team camp for high school boys’ basketball teams. The camp is scheduled for June 19-20 and costs $50 per player for commuters and $75 for commuter campers with meals included. For overnight campers, the cost is $65 and $90 for overnight campers with meals included. Teams participating in the team camp will be classified according to their level of play and classification. Each team will compete in a round-robin pool to determine seeding for tournament play. All of the camp games will have certified officials who are taking part in a summer referee clinic.

“Our team camp will allow every school in the state of Arkansas to play against the best competition the state has to offer,” said Downey, who is entering his fourth season with the Wonder Boys in 2009-10.  “It will be an excellent measuring stick for your upcoming season and will allow our staff to evaluate some of the evaluate some of the great high school players that the state has to offer.”
