WONDER BOYS ANNOUNCE ITS SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMP DATES

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys Basketball Coach Mark Downey has announced that he and his coaching staff will be conducting four basketball camps this coming summer on the Tech campus.

Among the camps this summer are two individual skills camps, a two-day junior-senior high team camp and a weekend father-son/parent-child camp.

Tech’s first camp of the summer is the first of two sessions of an individual skills day camp. The first individual skills camp is scheduled for June 23-26 and is open to anyone in grades 1-12 and costs $120, while the second individual skills camp is scheduled for July 28-31 and also costs $120. Campers that choose to attend both individual camp sessions for a cost of $200. Both of the individual skills camps will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.

Downey said that the individual skills day camp will emphasize the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, passing, dribbling and team play. In addition, it will focus on sportsmanship, attitude and work ethic. The camp will feature contests, skill stations, guest speakers and every camper will have their jumpshot videotaped.

Tech’s next camp is a two-day team camp for junior high and senior high school boys’ basketball teams. The camp is scheduled for June 29-30 and costs $60 per player for commuters and $75 per player if the team chooses to stay on-campus.   The team camp will be divided into junior high and senior high divisions and will classified according to their level of play and classification. Each team will compete in a round-robin pool to determine seeding for tournament play. All of the camp games will have certified officials, which are taking part in a summer referee clinic.

“Our team camp will allow every school in the state of Arkansas to play against the best competition the state has to offer,” said Downey, who is entering into his third season with the Wonder Boys in 2008-09.  “It will be an excellent measuring stick for your upcoming season.”

The final camp of the summer is a weekend father-son/parent-child camp that is scheduled for July 18-19 and costs $115 for commuters and $160 for overnight campers. This camp offers a great opportunity for parents to learn and teach the fundamentals of basketball with their children. Downey says that this camp will feature fundamental instruction, as well as contest and games between parents and children. Among some of the highlights of the camp are skill stations, contests, guest speakers and pizza party on Friday night.
