TECH BASEBALL COACH BILLY GOSS ANNOUNCES HIS RESIGNATION
RUSSELLVILLE,
Arkansas
–
Arkansas Tech University Athletic Director Steve
Mullins announced Wednesday that Billy Goss
has tendered his resignation as the school’s head
baseball coach.
Goss,
who just finished his 11th season at the helm of the
Wonder Boys Baseball program, posted a 265-277-1 overall
record at Tech and led the Wonder Boys to five Gulf
South Conference Tournament appearances, including a GSC
Tournament runner-up finish in 2001. This past season,
Tech finished with a 22-30 overall record and a 9-12
mark in the GSC West Division. It was the third straight
20-win season for the Wonder Boys.
“I want to thank Billy Goss for the years of service he
gave to Arkansas Tech University and its baseball
program,” Mullins said. “We want to wish him and his
family the very best.”
Prior to taking over the reigns of Wonder Boys Baseball
program from Dale Harpenau in 1999, Goss spent
three seasons as an assistant football coach for the
Wonder Boys. Goss was named the school’s 16th-ever
baseball coach in the fall of 1998.
In his tenure at Tech, Goss coached 38 All-GSC West
Division performers, seven GSC All-Academic honorees, 70
GSC Academic Honor Roll members and had two players
drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft – first
baseman John Paul Davis, Tampa Bay Devil Rays
(2001, 22nd round) and righthanded pitcher Aubrey
Miller, Baltimore Orioles (2006, 23rd round).
Mullins said that a search to find a replacement will
begin immediately and he expects to have one in place by
July 1. In the interim period, assistant coach Wes
McCrotty will oversee the program.
