WEST ALABAMA COMPLETES THREE GAME SWEEP OVER TECH
LIVINGSTON, Alabama –
The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys baseball team dropped
their third consecutive game to the No. 12 West Alabama
Tigers Sunday afternoon at Tartt Field in Livingston,
Ala. by the score of 12-1.
Tech, who was outscored 28-9 in the three game
series, was only able to scrounge one run on six hits in
the contest. Tech got their lone run in the seventh
inning off of Tiger pitcher Clint Smith when a Hayden
Miller (Sherwood, Ark.) double to right center
scored senior Brad Green (Cabot, Ark.) all the
way from first base.
Tech did manage to steal three more bases in
the contest, as freshman Tyler Tate (Fort Smith,
Ark.), who had stolen four bases coming into the game,
added one to his season total, Jantzen Black
(Hackett, Ark.) picked up his third steal on the year
and Miller stole his, team-leading, sixth base of the
2008 campaign. On the year, Tech has now swiped 21 bases
on 27 attempts.
Brandon Dill picked up the win for UWA,
improving to 3-0 on the year. He threw five scoreless
innings, allowing just three hits while striking out
three Tech hitters.
Freshman right hander Caleb Powers
(Dover, Ark.) was saddled with the loss for Tech.
Powers, whose record fell to 1-1 on the year, threw one
inning allowing five hits and six runs.
The Tigers were led offensively by designated
hitter Rob Dahlberg who was hard on Tech pitching all
weekend. For the series, Dahlberg was a stellar 8 for 10
at the plate with five RBIs. Tres Avans, who was 4 for 4
in the nightcap on Saturday night, was 2 for 2 Sunday
afternoon with three RBIs and two runs scored. UWA left
fielder Phillip Merryman was 2 for 5 in the contest,
including a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth
inning off of Tech’s freshman left hander Daniel
Philpot (Van Buren, Ark.)
Tech will look to get back on the winning
track Tuesday, as they travel to Bolivar, Mo. for a
doubleheader with the Southwest Baptist Bearcats
beginning at 1 p.m. Tech has already picked up a pair of
wins against the Bearcats this season when they
defeated SBU on Feb. 13 by the scores of 11-4 and 14-0.
