ZACH WEISS NAMED TECH'S MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Senior pitcher Zach Weiss (Barnhart, Mo.) has been named this week's Male Athlete of the Week after helping the Wonder Boys open up GSC play 6-0 for the first time since the 2001 season. 

Over his last three starts, all wins, Weiss has pitched 19.1 innings and has allowed 13 hits and two runs, both of which have been earned and has an ERA of 0.93 over that stretch. In addition, he has walked six and struck out nine and opposing hitters hit just .191 against the righthander.

On the season, Weiss leads the team with a 4-3 record and has an ERA of 2.66. He has made eight starts and tossed one complete game.  In 40.2 innings of work, Weiss has allowed 36 hits and 12 earned runs, while walking 13 and striking out 23. 

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Zach Weiss:
I took a visit here and I really liked the campus and the facilities. The coaches also were very straight forward and I liked that.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
ZW: I like to just hang out with my teammates.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
ZW: I tend to listen to country.

What do you consider your hobby?
ZW: I love to golf and watch sports in general.

What sport other than baseball do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
ZW: Football or golf.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
ZW: My entire family has always been behind me in whatver I do.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
ZW: Honestly, I don't have a moment. But this whole year so far has been a great time and hopefully it will continue that way.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
ZW: I love Hawai'i. So I would definitely go back there and lay around on the beach and play a lot of golf.

What is your major at Tech?
ZW: History Education.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
ZW: I would like to become a history teacher and a baseball coach.

Do you have a pet?
ZW: Well my roommate had a basset hound and his name is Cooper. It's basically mine.

What's the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
ZW: Bowling. It was an amazing course, because bowling rocks. But also any course with Dr. Krueger. He is an amazing professor.

What are your goals for this season?
ZW: To win the conference tournament and advance deep into the postseason.
