TROY MARCUS NAMED TECH'S MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Junior forward Troy Marcus (Bronx, NY) has been named this week's Male Athlete of the Week after his 19 point and 11 rebound performance Thursday Feb. 28 which led Tech to a 79-76 home victory over the Delta State Statesmen. With the win, Tech helped assure itself a spot this weekend in the Gulf South Conference Tournament in Southaven, Miss.

On the year, Marcus is averaging 10.7 points per game and a team-best 5.6 rebounds per game.

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Troy Marcus: The coaches seemed very honest.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
TM: The living conditions, I really love the apartments.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
TM: I really like JayZ. But I pretty much listen to everything.

What do you consider your hobby?
TM: I like to draw and play my playstation 3.

What sport other than basketball do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
TM: I play and watch football. I also played baseball as a kid, but I can only watch the Yankees.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
TM: My coach Fred Neil, R.I.P. He was my AAU coach with the NYC Gauchos.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
TM: I don't think memorable would be the proper term. I would have to say at Harding. I hit my head and didn't remember a thing afterward. We won the game but my team joked about how confused I looked.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
TM: Eat, sleep, play pick up ball, and finish the night up on the PS3.

What is your major at Tech?
TM: I'm an EAM major.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
TM: Hopefully continue my basketball career. If not, then I want to work in the field of my degree.

Do you have a pet?
TM: I have a pet cat and is name is Oreo...But he looks like a cow.

What's the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
TM: First Aid

What are your goals for this season?
TM: Finish out strong as a team and as an individual. Win GSC title. I'd like to become an All-Conference Selection and win a National Championship.
