KRISTEN BROWN NAMED TECH'S FEMALE STUDENT-ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns tennis player Kristen Brown (Winona, Texas) as this week's Female Student-Athlete of the Week.

Brown, who is a junior, earns this week's honor after helping the Golden Suns earn its first-ever berth in the 2008 Gulf South Conference Tennis Tournament, which was held last weekend in Montgomery, Ala. In addition, Tech finished the season with an 11-10 overall record, its first winning mark since going 12-11 during the 2003 season.

On the season, Brown compiled an impressive 16-4 mark in singles action, playing mostly at the No. 5 spot, where she went 10-2. In addition to her singles play, Brown posted a 14-9 mark in doubles, including going 14-7 in doubles action with senior Whitney Simmons (Pottsville, Ark.). In GSC play, Brown went 5-1 in singles action and teamed with Simmons at No. 3 doubles to go 3-3. This was Brown's third season of playing tennis for the Golden Suns. As a freshman in 2005, she was also a member of the cross country team.

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Kristen Brown: To play tennis and I liked the campus when I visited.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?

What do you consider your hobby?
KB: Watching my husband race his dirt bikes, running, spending time with my family
and playing any kind of sport.

What sport other than tennis do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
KB: I grew up watching my older brother play baseball, so I have always been a big baseball fan.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
KB: My dad. He is the strongest person I know and he has always been there for me
and has always been there for me and has been my biggest supporter.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
KB: Beating Ouachita Baptist this season and making the conference tournament.
