TECH NAMES JARRED CARLYLE THIS WEEK'S MALE
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.) of the Tech golf team this week's male athlete of the week.

Carlyle, who is competing in this week's NCAA Division II South/South Central Super Regional Tournament at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, Texas, earns this week's honor after leading the Wonder Boys Golf team with a team-best 72.6 scoring average in 16 rounds of golf and eight tournament. On the season, he has had four Top 10 finishes, including a first-place finish at the Natural State Classic in Heber Springs. At the Natural State Classic, Carlyle shot a season-best 136 for 36 holes. In addition, he finished tied for sixth at this year's GSC Men's Golf Championship and earned All-Tournament Team honors after shooting a 54-hole total of 217 at the Hot Springs Country Club.

For the third straight season, Carlyle was named a First-Team All-GSC selection for the third consecutive season this year and becomes one of only three men's golfers to earn First-Team All-GSC honors for three consecutive seasons.

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Jarred Carlyle: I felt like I would excel more athletically and academically at Tech. I also thought Coach Falconer was hilarious to be around.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
JC: I'm on my own. I feel like I have more responsibility and my actions reflect the person I am.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
JC: I like all kinds of music. Classical, rock, rap and some country. Anything I can sing too.

What do you consider your hobby?
JC: Golf is my hobby, but I love all sports.

What sport other than golf do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
JC: I like all sports, but I would have to choose tennis. I played it in high school and loved it.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
JC: My family, no matter what, they are always there to encourage me and love me.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
JC: I'm still waiting on winning Conference, Regionals or Nationals, whichever comes first.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
JC: I would like to be with all the people I like to hang out with, NO BUDGET, NO CELL PHONE and just have a good time with no worries.

What is your major at Tech?
JC: Marketing and Management. I'm taking it slow.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
JC: I plan to go to PGA school, get my card and hopefully teach golf somewhere exclusive. I would also like to get married, have kids and be happy!

Do you have a pet?
JC: I wish, I don't think it would be fair to have a pet because I wouldn't spend much time with him because I'm always busy. I would like to one have a Golden Retreiver.

How many times a day do you find yourself checking facebook?
JC: All the time even though I hate Facebook. It only causes drama, but it's a good way to stay in touch with people.

What's the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
JC: Beginners Golf. It feels good to know everything that's going on in the classroom. (Ha!!)

What are your goals for this season?
JC: Build a solid 5-man team and compete with the top teams in the Nation and make a name for myself.
