TECH NAMES DANA ALDRICH AS ITS FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns senior pitcher Dana Aldrich (Palm Harbor, Fla.) as this week’s Female Athlete of the Week.

Aldrich is coming off a history-making performance last Saturday in Tech's season-opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In the 8-0 win over UAPB, Aldrich made history as she tossed the school's first-ever perfect game in softball and in the process, also tossed the school's third-ever no-hitter. Against the Lady Lions, Aldrich, who is one of Tech's six returning letterwinners from last season, pitched six innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters, including striking out the side in the third inning.

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Dana Aldrich:
After growing up in Florida my whole life, I really wanted to move away to a totally different place with new challenges and experiences.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
DA: I would have to say meeting new people and being on my own is what I like best.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
DA: I tend to listen to hip-hop and R&B. Lil Wayne, Neyo, Keyshia Cole are some of my favorites.

What do you consider your hobby?
DA: Being with friends, family and watching sports.

What sport other than softball do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
DA: In high school, I played volleyball and flag football; but I really love basketball and college football.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
DA: My parents. They have taught me how to be a good person and a hard worker in all I do.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
DA: It's a tie between beating Pittsburg State last season and throwing the first perfect game in school history.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
DA: I would more probably go to Hawaii or somewhere tropical, because I love the beach!

What is your major at Tech?
DA: Health Information Management.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
DA: I would like to go to graduate school and get my masters degree and probably head back home to Florida and start a career in pharmaceutical sales.
