ANNA CARSON NAMED TECH'S FEMALE STUDENT-ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns tennis player Anna Carson (Greenwood, Ark.) as this week's Female Student-Athlete of the Week.

Carson, who is a junior, earns the honor after helping lead the Golden Suns to a No. 9 ranking in the first NCAA Division II South Region poll that was released on Wednesday. Carson, who play No. 1 singles for a Golden Suns team that is 7-5 on the season. So far this year, Carson has compiled a 4-5 mark in singles, including being 1-1 in GSC play at singles and is 8-4 in doubles action, including teaming with sophomore Saki Matsuoka (Saitama, Japan) at No. 1 doubles to go 6-3.

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Anna Carson: I chose to come to Tech because of tennis and geology.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
AC: Instead of a job, I play tennis. (Yes, I realize involves athletics)

What is your favorite type of music/group?
AC: I like anything with a beat! In addition, I also like Christian music as well.

What sport other than tennis do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
AC: I love playing basketball. It is still my favorite sports.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
AC: My brother, Josh. It is his fault I am a type A personality.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
AC: I would have to say our first big home match this season.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
AC: I would probably go on a Mediterranean cruise and then go to Barbados for the summer. In addition, I would also go to New Zealand. 

What is your major at Tech?
AC: Petroleum Geology.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
AC: I'll probably join on those big gas companies, while also working on my masters degree.

Do you have a pet?
AC: Yes, Dana, my chocolate lab. She's the prettiest dog ever, but not real bright though.

How many times a day do you find yourself checking facebook?
AC: My freshman year, I was addicted and checked it hourly. I honestly don't get that excited anymore about it - I probably check it every few days.

What's been the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
AC: I would have to say, structural geology, petrology and mineralogy. I thought getting through chemistry was my greatest feat.

What are your goals for this season?
AC: To make both the conference and regional tournaments this season and to win the conference championship next season!
